Eruption history and volcano shape

Crater Lake was created after the collapse of an ancient volcano. This volcano was called Mount Mazama. This volcano violently erupted approximately 7700 years ago. That eruption was 42 times more powerful than 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. The caldera was formed after the top 5000 feet of the volcano collapsed. Lava that sealed off the bottom alowed 4.6 trillion gallons of water from rainfall and snow melt, to create the seventh deepest lake in the world at 1,932 feet. then a new volcano was formed by rising magma. This volcano is called wizard island. this volcano was formed in crater lake. Wizard island has a few hydrothermal vents.

Environmental Dangers and Eruption styles

Crater lake's wizard island is explosive but does not damage much farther then crater lake and does not happen very often. The type of lava that comes out of wizard island is usualy silic lava flows, and usauly realy vicous so the lava moves slowly. the most damaging thing to people from wizard island is a pyroclastic flow because it reaches farther away from crater lake and moves quickly. also wizard island acationaly has hydrothermal acticity as in hydrothermal vents. after an eruption ash clouds will cover some of crater lake but will not go into any towns. the only damage crater lake does to any towns or roads is from pyroclastic flows that will rip tear and kill anything in is path. other than pyroclastic flows there are alot of earthquakes from crater lake at magnitudes at 5.9 and 6.0 alot that are damaging to the towns and they soften the soil around the towns and create liquafaction, damaging towns even worse.

Type of volcano and its Geologic location

Crater lake is a cinder cone volcano on a continental hotspot. Crater Lake is located 130 km northeast of Medford, Oregon. Crater lake was not made by any tectonic plate movmetns but by a magma chamber erupting. After the eruption the chamber emptied and the cone of the volcano collapsed inward causing a gap. eventualy rain filled in the gap with water. Then magma again rose and created wizard island.
